I started with one of my favorites that I haven't made for probably 3 years now.  Mrs. Smith's Famous Peach Red Pepper Relish found in Fare For Friends cookbook.  The recipe was actually given to me by a former landlady who we became close friends with.  It is delicious served with chicken or pork, and also on crackers with cream cheese. Perhaps rain a bit later today.  Lovely.  I filled a few containers with water just in case the power went off, and turned up the heat a bit more than usual.  Today is not the day to skimp on heat.  That way it will take longer to lose heat if the power should fail. Lemon Blueberry Muffins from Costco.  These are really good.  The streusel on top really adds to it.  Since these are very large muffins, the way I like to eat them is to slice them into 5 or 6 pieces.  Lay them on a pie tin or piece of tin foil, then put them in  your toaster oven.  Toast them at 300F on lower rack until they just begin to turn a golden color, approx. 5 minutes or so. It is currently 56F.  Going to cool off after tomorrow of course, but that's ok.  It was so nice out, that I opened the back door and a couple of windows a crack, and turned off the furnace for a bit.  Talk about smell wonderful outside!! Yipee!! Just a spot or two in the woods or deep shade. Still in the 40's, but warmer next week. That's what I love about CT. The winters are alot shorter than northern Maine, or western NB, Canada. My folks just got another 6 inches this past weekend, and my brother in northern Maine said they have gotten 17 or 18 feet total this winter. Mind you, the youngest 'kid' is in her 30's, the oldest pushing 60. According to my bird book, they are much further north.It was kind of funny watching the birds this morning at the feeders on my deck.  With all that ice accumulation on the rails, they had a tricky time of it.  The nuthatches were especially comical slip sliding their way to the feeder.
